Description

A community of fungi-folk honor the change of seasons with a shrine-building ceremony to give thanks to the trees for their gift of the falling leaves. Talk to your neighbors, explore the undergrowth to find materials and build your shrine before dusk fades in this danger-free 2D adventure.

Fungi Town was made in 6 days for the Cozy Autumn Game Jam (2022). The theme was "Cozy Autumn".

Lore

The fungi community worship the trees as gods as they can communicate in an abstract way through the mycelium.

Every year at the Autumn Equinox they hold a ceremony to honor the end of summer and beginning of autumn. They will not hear from their gods until spring when the leaves return and there are more nutrients and impulses spread through the roots. They celebrate the falling leaves as their nutrients are absorbed by the fungi and used for many purposes. They believe that building shrines shows their respect to the trees before their sight above ground is lost for the cold seasons and they spiritually retreat underground.

The ceremony is non-competitive and is participated in by a random selection of fungi-folk from different backgrounds / families who are coming of age. It is rumored that a perfectly built shrine will lead to a certain resonance of natural energy which will prevent the trees from coming to any harm.
